About Brian Mugenyi
The Quintessential African Saxophonist.
Brian Mugenyi (aka Buula) is a Nairobi-based Ugandan saxophonist, pianist, singer-songwriter, and producer who bridges cultures through music. His musical journey began at age eight on the piano, later leading him to major in classical piano and minor in saxophone and African traditional instruments at the Africa Institute of Music. An exchange program in South Korea solidified his global perspective, sparking a career that spans performances across Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Americas.
Known for his seamless blend of jazz and contemporary African sounds, Brian has shared stages with industry legends like Manu Dibango, Richard Bona, and BWB (Norman Brown, Kirk Whalum & Rick Braun). From playing a crowd of 25,000 at China’s ISY Festival as supporting act for Franck Biyong, to jamming at London's iconic Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club, his versatility makes him a staple for high-profile international festivals and corporate events alike.
